Capital wine 2026

Next year, WINZER KREMS will supply the wine for the 40th anniversary of St. Pölten as the capital of Lower Austria. It was blessed on Nov. 4th during a wine christening ceremony.

Every year, particularly fine wines from the capital region are  chosen as the official St. Pölten wine for the next twelve months. For 2026, this wine is edited by WINZER KREMS! It is a fresh & fruity Grüner Veltliner, which – in keeping with the anniversary – will be called ‘Vierzger’. On Nov. 4th it was presented for the first time and blessed in the Bründlgraben wine cellar. The wine's patron is Dominik Mesner, chairman of the stp*platform. The blessing was performed by Krems parish priest Franz Richter.
It is a very special honour for WINZER KREMS that, as Austria's largest winery, we will be able to provide the St. Pölten capital wine for the anniversary in 2026. It is also a clear sign of the cooperation between the cities of Krems and St. Pölten – in addition to the two mayors, numerous city councillors from both cities were among the visitors. The Grüner Veltliner VIERZGER will be bottled at the end of december and will be presented for the first time at the St. Pölten Provincial Capital Ball on 10 January 2026 and will be featured at numerous anniversary events in St. Pölten in 2026.
