St. Pölten Capital Ball

Traditionally, the 2026 Provincial Capital Wine was presented for the first time at the Capital Ball.

On January 10th, the 2026 Provincial Capital Ball took place at the VAZ in St. Pölten. With dancing, music and a festive atmosphere, St. Pölten kicked off its anniversary year – celebrating 40 years as the provincial capital of Lower Austria. Traditionally, the respective provincial capital wine, which comes from WINZER KREMS this year, is also presented to the public for the first time at this event. Our fresh and fruity Grüner Veltliner –named „Vierzger“ (“Forty”) – was received with great enthusiasm by the approximately 4,000 guests.
At the opening ceremony, Winzer Krems Managing Director Ludwig Holzer presented Mayor Matthias Stadler not only with a magnum bottle of the Provincial Capital Wine, but also with a special rarity: a bottle of Riesling Kabinett from 1986 - the year were St. Pölten was announced as the provincial capital.

The Provincial Capital Wine “VIERZGER” is now available ex-cellar at WINZER KREMS, at St. Pölten Town Hall and in restaurants and selected shops in St. Pölten!
